League City Ballet Founder and Director , Kathleen Waltz, began her ballet training in Southern California. Her her formative training began with Ballet Russe masters; Michael Panniaeff and Lila Zali. She was a scholarship student at San Francisco Ballet School and Joffrey Ballet School, New York. She continued her pre-professional training in Vaganova under Madam Sulamith Messerer in New York and maestro Vladimir Luppov in California. Waltz danced as soloist and principal with Basel Ballet in Switzerland, Boston Ballet, Nevada Dance Theater, and San Antonio Ballet under her maiden name Kathleen Nolen. She has worked for and performed with renowned directors and dancers such as George Balanchine, Rudolf Nureyev, Violet Verdi, Cynthia Gregory, Enrique Martinez, Frank Augustyn, Mary Jago, and Eva Evdokimova to name a few. After retiring from dance she continued to perform as guest artist for many regional companies, including Delta Festival Ballet , Ballet Metropolitan Wichita, and Clear Lake Metropolitan Ballet. Waltz was director of Springfield Ballet in Missouri for a year and a half before moving to Houston in 1987. In 2004 she founded and established the Houston International Ballet Academy in League City.
